Meditation Prayers
Many people struggle with the idea of Christian meditation. What does it mean to apply Christian principles to a practice that is also used by Eastern religions? Meditation is a broad term, and it applies to a variety of different techniques used to create a heightened state of awareness.
In Christian forms of meditation, forming a connection to God is a part of the process. Rather than reaching a higher state of communication with the self, the goal in biblical meditation is to find a connection to a higher power. Through this connection to something outside of ourselves, many of us make peace with our inner selves and with the truth of the world.
Meditation is a form of prayer. Because it is a search for peace from the stress and anxiety of everyday living, meditation is also a prayer for inner peace. One style of meditation with a spiritual angle is "Be Still and Know." This type of meditation has been taught for many years by Roy Masters; in fact, this is why Roy created the Foundation of Human Understanding.
The "Be Still and Know" meditation works to create permanent changes in your thinking. Rather than distracting yourself for a short period of time with mantras and chants, this type of meditation teaches you to break the cycle of hypnotic thinking we all develop over time. Hypnotic thinking is a conditioned response most of us experience due to a variety of different factors including our upbringing, previous experiences, and personal relationships.
